How to transcribe a YouTube video to text
Three steps: pull the source audio, transcribe it, then edit and export. The tool above handles the first two.
Step 1: Pull the source file
Paste the URL above. MP3 is the right choice for transcription because only the speech matters and the file uploads faster. If you also want the video for editing, the YouTube Video Downloader exports MP4.
Step 2: Transcribe it
Click Transcribe in Wisprs once the job finishes. That imports the audio into your dashboard and starts transcription. Files up to 10 minutes are free with no card.
Step 3: Edit and export
Review the speaker-labelled text, fix any names or terms the model misheard, then export as TXT, SRT, VTT, DOCX, Markdown, or JSON depending on where it is going next.
Which export format should I use?
Use SRT or VTT for captions you will upload back to YouTube. Use TXT or DOCX for reading and editing. Use Markdown when the transcript feeds a blog post, and JSON when you need the timestamps programmatically.
